The struggle for control of the Tripura Cricket Association turned ugly this week as two rival factions of the ruling BJP openly fought with each other. Reports of firearm usage were also covered by the media, which embarrassed the central party leadership. The BJP central leadership is concerned about the happenings in the tiny state before the Lok Sabha polls. Instead of bats and balls, firearms and lathis were extensively used in the cricket association office. The secretary of the association, along with his supporters, attempted to enter the TCA office, but the rival group from the same party did not allow them to enter, leading to clashes. Agartala became tense after the clashes, with one group brandishing lethal weapons to outdo the other.
