Chandigarh railway station renovation, disrupts train services on platforms

The Chandigarh railway station will temporarily close platforms number four and five for 34 days, starting tomorrow, as part of the ongoing world-class infrastructure development work. This will impact a total of eight trains, with five of them being relocated to other platforms, while three trains will not make a stop in Chandigarh during this period. The railway station’s redevelopment is being carried out by the Rail Land Development Authority (RLDA).
As a result of these changes, the Chandigarh-Lucknow train (train numbers 15011 and 15012) will now operate from Ambala to Lucknow. Similarly, the Chandigarh-Patliputra train (train numbers 22355 and 22356) will also depart from Ambala. Additionally, the Chandigarh-Firozpur train (train numbers 14629-14630) will only operate up to Ludhiana starting tomorrow.
The renovation of the Chandigarh railway station, which carries a cost of INR 462 crore, commenced a year ago to complete it within 15 months. The station upgrade is part of a LightHouse project and will be carried out using a modular concept.
Following the renovation, the railway station will offer various facilities, including a modern lobby, food court, tree lounge, inquiry counter, and retail shop spaces. A 72-metre wide plaza, food plaza, and retail shop area will be provided on the platform, allowing passengers to wait for their trains in a comfortable environment.
