Chandigarh Police organises special session on CRIMINAL LAW

Chandigarh Police organised a special session on new major Criminal Law topics at Chandigarh Judicial Academy, Sector 43. A law workshop for investigating officers of Chandigarh Police was initiated at the Judicial Academy. This workshop was conducted in three batches, including 175 police officers of HC rank, with participation from Inspectors and DSPs. A total of 550 police officers from Chandigarh Police attended the workshop.

Additionally, a two-day course on new key criminal law topics and a meeting of all GOs of Chandigarh Police were organised at Police Headquarters Sector 9, UT. The course was inaugurated by Praveer Ranjan, ADGP/UT. Dr. Sahil Arora, Vice Principal, CDTI, Chandigarh, and Sanjay Kumar, Deputy SP CDTI, supervised the course.

The course began with a 30-minute video of the parliamentary debate, and the validation ceremony was a two-day workshop at the police headquarters organised by Raj Kumar Singh, IGP UT. Both courses covered various topics during lectures, including an overview of new criminal laws (additions, deletions, amendments) and identification of chapters and sections. Additionally, information was provided on cognizable cases, Zero FIR, EFIR, Preliminary Investigation, Collection of evidence from the crime scene by forensic experts, Jurisdiction and power of the trial court, speedy delivery of justice, prosecution reforms, legal proceedings, bail reforms, summary trial, etc.

Other reforms discussed in the courses included sentencing, procedural reforms related to victims, focused reforms, witness protection schemes, reforms in crimes, crimes against women and children, mob lynching, organized crime, terrorist acts, etc.

There were also improvements in evidence group discussions related to the relevance of primary and secondary facts. Verification work is ongoing for all the batches of the course on New Major Criminal Law at Judicial Academy Sector 43 Chandigarh. The function was presided over in the presence of Praveer Ranjan, DGP/UT, Dr. Ajau Kumar, Director, Judicial Academy, Sector-43, Chandigarh, and officers of CDTI, Judicial Academy, and Chandigarh Police.
