Chandigarh police arrests drug addict thief

The Anti Narcotics Task Force (ANTF) of the police has arrested a suspect accused of stealing jewelry worth lakhs of rupees from inside a house. The arrested individual has been identified as Rakesh, also known as Bittu, a resident of EWS Flat/Dhanas. Police recovered jewelry worth approximately Rs 15 lakh from the suspect’s possession. The suspect was presented in court, and police obtained remand for further questioning.

Providing details, DSP Crime Udaypal Singh and Inspector Satwinder Singh stated that their team apprehended Rakesh Kumar in connection with the theft case. Jewelry valued at about Rs 15 lakh was found in the suspect’s possession. It was revealed that the suspect is a drug addict, and it was under the influence of drugs that he committed the theft. The theft incident was reported at Police Station 39 by Rajiv Kaushal, a resident of Sector-39/B, Chandigarh. The stolen items included various gold items (such as two pairs of earrings, four chains, two sets of bangles, two bracelets, three large rings, and three small rings), diamond items (including one set without a chain, two pairs of earrings, and one ring), and silver accessories (including three pairs of anklets, seven silver coins, three small glasses, six bowls, two spoons, and one waistband). Additionally, cash amounting to approximately Rs 35,000, a 256 GB hard drive, an ATM SBI Bank card, and a wallet were reported stolen.

Acting on a tip-off, the police arrested Rakesh Kumar from Marble Market, Sarangpur. Recovered from the suspect’s possession were various stolen gold articles (including one pair of earrings, four chains, two sets of bangles, three large rings, one small ring, and three pairs of earrings), diamond items (one set, two pairs of earrings, and one ring), and silver items (three pairs of anklets, two silver coins, three small glasses, three bowls, two spoons, and one waistband).
