‘Chandigarh Freedom Fighters’ Families Demand Facilities on Par with Punjab and Haryana’

The Chandigarh Freedom Fighters’ Families met with Arun Sood, President of BJP Chandigarh, and presented their demands, seeking rights and facilities similar to those provided in Punjab and Haryana.
Ramesh Goyat, Chandigarh Mayor, also met with the families of freedom fighters. During the meeting, Arun Sood conveyed the demands that had been pending for some time on behalf of the Freedom Fighters’ Association. The association had demanded a 2% reservation in government jobs for the children of freedom fighters. They also requested free medical treatment in the main hospitals of Chandigarh for the families of freedom fighters.
Additionally, they sought an increase in the monthly pension for freedom fighters’ dependents to INR 25,000, equivalent to neighboring states like Punjab and Haryana. Similar to how engineering students from Chandigarh receive reservation benefits, the association wanted medical college admissions to extend the same benefit. Arun Sood assured them that the BJP respects the honor and sacrifices of freedom fighters and will make efforts to fulfill their demands. The Chandigarh administration has, until now, applied Punjab’s service rules. However, even Chandigarh’s residents, who are descendants of freedom fighters, do not receive any exemptions like in Punjab and Haryana. This discrimination has angered the families of freedom fighters.
