CBI team in Birbhum to probe post-poll violence case

A CBI team has arrived in Birbhum to probe the alleged murder of a BJP activist in the alleged post-poll violence case. The team reached a village under the Mallarpur police station in Birbhum with a large central force at around 4.30 am, to investigate the murder of Zakir Hossain, a BJP activist.

CBI officials visited the houses of the 13 accused one by one. As soon as the CBI reached his house, an accused named Fazia Kazi fled from the house. His wife and son were interrogated for a long time. Later, the accused’s son Alamgir Kazi was arrested and taken away by the CBI.

CBI officials, divided into several groups, conducted the investigation. In each group, there were also jawans of the central army. When the huge central force and CBI officials reached the village, panic spread in the area. BJP activist Zakir Hossain was killed on May 8 in Court village. On his way home from the market, the BJP booth worker was beaten on the road near the village floor. He lay on the street in a bloody state for a long time. The locals rescued him and admitted him to Rampurhat Medical College Hospital. Later, his physical condition deteriorated there. He was transferred to Kolkata. He died on 16 May on his way to Kolkata. The CBI has started an investigation into the incident on the instructions of the High Court.

It is to be mentioned that a week ago, CBI sleuths went to the Trinamool Congress party office in Ilambazar of Birbhum to investigate the post-poll violence case. They went to investigate the death of BJP activist Gaurab Sarkar, who was allegedly killed in post-poll violence. Central detectives raided the TMC’s party office for the first time in the investigation.

On May 2, the day the results of the Assembly elections were announced, BJP activist Gaurab Sarkar was allegedly beaten to death in Gopalnagar village. The BJP district leadership alleged that Trinamool Congress workers attacked Sarkart on the streets from the victory procession after the election results were announced. The BJP worker died on the spot. The CBI had already arrested one person from Sheoraphuli area of Hughli on September 12 and the accused was taken to Bolpur court on September 13. The CBI issued notices to Babar Ali and Ravi Murmu of the Trinamool Congress.
