CBI arrests accused judge’s daughter in Sippy Sidhu murder case

Sukhmanpreet Singh Sidhu alias Sippy Sidhu was shot dead on 20 September 2015. A National level shooter in Chandigarh was brutally murdered in daylight in a park situated in Sector 27, Chandigarh. Almost seven years after the murder of a national-level shooter in Chandigarh, the CBI arrested an accused named Kalyani Singh, daughter of Himachal Pradesh High Court’s Acting Chief Justice Sabina on Wednesday.

The agency got 4-day remand to interrogate Kalyani. The body of Sukhmanpreet, who was also a corporate lawyer, was found in a park. He was only 35. Sukhmanpreet was quite a famous model, lawyer, and shooter. He was a grandson of Justice SS Sidhu, a former judge of Punjab and Haryana High Court.  A .12 bore gun was used in the crime and four bullets were fired from it. The UT Police had registered a case of murder at the Sector 26 police station.

The case was handed over to CBI in 2016. They registered the FIR on 13 April 2016 at the request of the Chandigarh administration. However, they wanted to gather more clues, following which, around seven months later, in September 2016, CBI sleuths announced a reward of Rs 5 lakh for anybody providing a clue that could help crack the case. “During further investigation, the alleged involvement of the accused (Kalyani) came forth in the case. Accordingly, she was examined and arrested,” a spokesperson said.

The CBI also gave a newspaper ad stating that “there is reason to believe that a woman was accompanying Sippy’s killer at the time of the murder. The said woman is also being given this opportunity to come forward and contact us if she is innocent. Otherwise, it shall be presumed that she was a party to the offence”.

“The accused was produced in the Court of Special Judicial Magistrate, Chandigarh,” the spokesperson added.
