Calcium and Vitamin Tablets Failed Quality Standards Tests

The Central Drugs Standard Control Organisation (CDSCO) released its September report. It found that 49 out of 3,000 tested pharmaceutical products failed quality standards. This includes Calcium 500 mg and Vitamin D3 tablets from Life Max Cancer Laboratories.

Spurious Medicines Identified

The CDSCO flagged four medicines made by counterfeit companies as spurious. It recalled these non-compliant drugs in batches to ensure public safety.

Effective Monitoring

CDSCO Chief Rajeev Singh Raghuvanshi reported that only about 1% of tested drugs did not meet quality benchmarks. This low percentage shows that strict monitoring effectively controls substandard drug production.

The report highlighted several other products with quality issues, including:

• Metronidazole tablets from Hindustan Antibiotics
• Domperidone tablets from Rainbow Life Sciences
• Oxytocin injections from Pushkar Pharma
• Metformin from Swiss Biotech Parentarels
• PAN 40 from Alkem Labs
• Paracetamol tablets from Karnataka Antibiotics & Pharmaceuticals Ltd

It also mentioned a Gauze Roll Non-Sterile Roller Bandage and Diclofenac Sodium tablets among the failed products.

Ongoing Vigilance

The CDSCO conducts this monthly review to reduce the number of non-standard quality (NSQ) drugs in the market.
