‘C-Vigil’ App aims for timely action on election code violations

Chief Election Officer Praveen Gupta stated that in the upcoming Legislative Assembly General Elections of 2023, the general public can use the ‘C-Vigil’ (Citizen Vigilance) app for effective action against violations of the Model Code of Conduct (MCC). The special feature of this app is that it resolves any complaint related to the Model Code of Conduct within just a hundred minutes. To file a complaint, it is necessary to upload a photo or a 2-minute video related to the violation of the Model Code of Conduct on the app.
Gupta mentioned that the Election Commission of India is using new technology to make the election process smooth and effective. In this regard, this app plays a significant role in preventing violations of the Model Code of Conduct. The Election Commission of India has implemented effective action through this app in several states.
In the absence of sufficient evidence, action could not be taken on complaints.
The Chief Election Officer mentioned that so far, strict action could not be taken on complaints related to violations of the Model Code of Conduct due to the lack of sufficient evidence. Now, through this app, fast-track complaint receipt and resolution will be possible within a specified time frame for complaints received. He mentioned that anyone with an Android-based device can download the ‘C-Vigil’ app. He further explained that this application will work only within the geographical boundaries of the states where elections are taking place. Complaints registered through the app are automatically forwarded to the relevant district control room, ensuring quick action at the incident site within a few minutes.
‘C-Vigil’ allows any person to report a violation of the Model Code of Conduct. The general public can send information about any violation of the Code of Conduct through this app. Officers will resolve the issue within a hundred minutes within their jurisdiction. The unique feature of this app is that the complainant’s identity is kept confidential. Anyone with an Android-based device can download the ‘C-Vigil’ app from the Google Play Store.
