C-DOT, IIT Jodhpur Partner on AI-Powered Network Management for 5G and Beyond

In a pioneering move that promises to reshape the telecommunications landscape, C-DOT, India’s Telecom R&D Centre, and the Indian Institute of Technology, Jodhpur (IIT-J), have signed an agreement to harness the potential of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in revolutionizing 5G and beyond networks. This strategic agreement, facilitated under the Telecom Technology Development Fund (TTDF) of the Department of Telecommunications (DoT), Government of India, marks a significant stride towards empowering affordable broadband and mobile services across the nation’s rural and remote areas.

The crux of this collaboration lies in the development of cutting-edge AI frameworks for automated network management, fault detection, and diagnostic techniques, leveraging the continuous stream of data generated within the 5G and beyond networks. By harnessing AI’s capabilities, this initiative aims to establish a real-time 5G and Beyond testbed, meticulously designed to comply with the O-RAN (Open Radio Access Network) specifications, thereby enabling the demonstration of automated network management and slicing techniques tailored to specific application use-cases.

Envisioning a future where technology seamlessly integrates with our daily lives, this collaboration seeks to unlock new frontiers in smart metering, remotely operated vehicles, and other innovative applications that will redefine our urban landscapes. Dr. Sai Kiran, MPR, Associate Professor at IIT Jodhpur, expressed his enthusiasm, stating, “We are thrilled to announce the R&D grant received from the DoT, which will fuel advanced research and development initiatives underway to revolutionize network management and enhance Quality of Service (QoS) in 5G and 6G telecommunications networks.”

He further elaborated, “By leveraging cutting-edge AI technologies, our team will spearhead the creation of automated network management solutions that ensure low-latency and high-reliability performance, enabling the growth of new 5G and 6G application verticals such as remotely operated vehicles, smart cities, and beyond.”

This groundbreaking collaboration not only promises to enhance network performance but also opens doors for India to contribute significantly to future 6G telecom standards, solidifying its position as a global leader in the telecommunications industry. C-DOT and IIT-Jodhpur are confident that the successful completion of this project will enable new use cases in transportation systems and smart cities, and propel India’s leadership in shaping the future of telecommunications.

As the world stands on the precipice of a technological revolution, this synergy between C-DOT and IIT-Jodhpur represents India’s unwavering commitment to embracing innovation and driving the nation towards a future where AI-powered 5G and beyond networks become the backbone of a connected, efficient, and sustainable society. With this trailblazing initiative, India is poised to unlock unprecedented opportunities, fostering economic growth, enhancing connectivity, and paving the way for a truly digitized nation.
