In a significant development aimed at accelerating grassroots development, the expenditure limit for Panchayats in Kurukshetra has been raised from 25% to 50%. The Sarpanch Association convened a meeting under the leadership of Pradhan JP Mehla, where Minister of State Sandeep Singh, serving as the chief guest, announced the government’s decision to enhance the expenditure limit by Rs 25 lakh.
Expressing gratitude on behalf of the Sarpanch Association, President JP Mehla thanked Chief Minister Manohar Lal for the proactive measure during the meeting. Minister of State Sandeep Singh disclosed plans to issue a notification soon, facilitating an increase in the loan limit for Panchayats. This adjustment will empower Gram Panchayats to allocate 50% of their annual budget for development projects according to their priorities.
Minister of State Sandeep Singh revealed that there are currently 6228 Gram Panchayats in the state. He highlighted that projects under Rs 5 lakh are exempt from e-tendering, while those exceeding this threshold require e-tendering procedures.
JP Mehla, in his statement, credited the successful outcome to the efforts of Minister of State Sandeep Singh.
He recalled a recent meeting between District Sarpanch Union President Jitendra Khaira, Deputy President Ravindra Kajal Malikpur, and a delegation of Sarpanches with Chief Minister Manohar Lal, where the demands of Panchayats were presented. Additional Chief Secretary Panchayat, Director Panchayat Department, and IAS officer V Umashankar, mediated by the Minister of State, assured a positive response, leading to the adjustment of the expenditure limit from 25% to 50%.
JP Mehla also mentioned an ongoing demand to increase the labor rate, expressing optimism that this issue will be addressed soon. Notable attendees at the meeting included Deputy Head Gurmehar Virk, Manoj Sarpanch Rohti, Gatty Randhawa, Sarpanch Binder Ishaq, Sukhbir Kalsa, Vikal Chaubey Dhanirampura, Sandeep Thana, Rajiv Kashyap, Amarjeet Aulakh Mangana, Ramlal Arnaicha, Ramkumar Arunay, and Satish Neemwala.
This decision is poised to usher in a new era of development at the grassroots level, allowing Panchayats greater flexibility in allocating resources for the benefit of their communities.
