In a shocking incident, the body of a female BJP leader was found dumped near a national highway in Assam’s Goalpara district on Sunday evening. BJP Goalpara district president Bhriguranjan Rabha confirmed that the body found had been identified as Jonali Nath, the Gopalpara district secretary.
VV Rakesh Reddy, Superintendent of Police of Goalpara district, said that the leader’s body had been recovered near the National Highway on Sunday night. “We have sent the body for post-mortem to the district civil hospital. We will be able to know the facts only after the post-mortem. An investigation is underway”, the SP said.
However, police officials suspect that Nath was killed in a “planned manner” and her body was subsequently dumped near the highway. Party colleagues took to Twitter to express their shock over Nath’s demise. The spokesperson for Assam BJP, Jury Sharma Bordoloi said Nath was known for her “unwavering commitment and tireless efforts”. “We are filled with sorrow, yet we remain hopeful that a thorough investigation will be conducted to shed light on the circumstances surrounding her untimely demise,” Sharma tweeted.
