Bengaluru : Congress leader visits flooded areas, talks to locals

Siddaramaiah, a senior member of the Congress, took a boat to visit the flooded Ecospace layout close to Bellandur Lake on Thursday and spoke with the locals to learn more about their problems.

The Leader of the Opposition in the Assembly toured regions that were submerged following two days of intense rain in the city and met with the worried residents while being escorted by representatives of the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) and the fire and emergency services.

“Today I visited waterlogged Ecospace on Bellandur ring road in Bellandur, listened to the problems faced by the residents there, and assured them to talk to the government to find a permanent solution to the problem,” he tweeted.

He also met the family of the 23-year-old woman who was electrocuted to death in the city three days earlier. The locals were incensed by the incident.

According to Siddaramaiah, the people of the “Silicon Valley of India” suffered because the BJP government in the state failed to desilt lakes or clear encroachments on water bodies and their feeder canals in the last three years.

The congress said that the people are suffering because of the carelessness of the government. It is justified that the people of the city are rebuking the government for being irresponsible in giving compensation to those who lost their lives due to rain and flooding.

Meanwhile, the water level dropped in Epsilon, a gated neighbourhood inhabited by billionaires like Rishad Premji close to Nagawara Lake.

The Chief Executive Officer of a construction startup said that the water has receded and now the residents of Epsilon have the task of cleaning up their houses, which are now filled with slush.

After the enormous rains subsided, the areas that had become swamped slowly limped their way back to normalcy.
