Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) President Sukhbir Singh Badal on Wednesday asked the Congress high command to clarify the face of the party for the 2022 assembly election even as he asserted the party could not hide its failures with a change of Chief Minister.
Interacting with media Badal said, “First the Congress high command announced one name but when an objection was raised it has now announced two names. Soon there may be three leaders who will be given this assignment. Punjabis want to know who is the real leader because earlier also during the fight for the top post the first choice was someone else but photos of the second choice were released even as the final choice emerged at the end.”
He said all this had proved that the fight in the Congress party had nothing to do with any public issue but was a fight for the top post. “The fight was also for the spoils of power. While the outgoing leadership has looted the State, the incoming one wants to grab the chance to do the same in the next three months,” Sukhbir Badal added.
He said the truth was that the entire Congress party was responsible for failing to serve Punjab. Congress President Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi were behind the party’s election manifesto and had endorsed all the promises made by former chief minister Capt Amarinder Singh, he added saying that none of these promises have been honoured. Instead of doing this, the Congress party now wants to befool people with a change of guard, said Sukhbir, adding that Punjabis are not so foolish; they will give a befitting answer to the Congress in the 2022 assembly elections. Former minister Bikram Singh Majithia was also present on the occasion.
