Assam tops the list of crime against women, Delhi records highest among UTs

According to National Crime Records Bureau data, there has been a 15.3% increase in crime against women, with a total of 4,282,278 cases totaled during 2021. The Indian Penal Code (IPC) lists four categories for crimes against women: kidnapping and abduction of women (17.6%), rape (17.6%), cruelty by husband or his relatives (31.8%), and assault on women with the intent to offend her modesty (20.8%). (7.4 per cent. According to the data, there were 64.5 crimes reported per 100,000 women in 2021, compared to 56.5 crimes in 2020. Delhi reported the highest rate of female-on-female crime among the Union Territories (147.6 per cent).

Assam reported the highest rate of crime against women for the fifth year in a row, with a rate of 168.3, well exceeding the national average of 64.5.

Concerned about the rise in incidents in the nation’s capital, the Delhi Commission for Women (DCW) urged swift action to avoid tarnishing Delhi’s reputation.

Swati Maliwal, the head of DCW, stated in a tweet that “according to NCRB data, crimes against women climbed by 41% in 2021 while crimes against children grew by 32%.”

She declared, “This is a serious subject, and every party and government should take decisive action to safeguard women’s safety.”

“It is necessary to take strong steps to prevent the name of Delhi from getting spoiled. From an 8-month-old girl to a 90-year-old woman, both raped in Delhi. The Delhi Commission for Women is working 24×7 to make every woman feel safe. But this is not enough. All governments should come together, save the daughters,” she said.
