Assam police seized 472 kg of cannabis (ganja) worth Rs 47 lakh from a truck along the Assam-Tripura border on Tuesday night. The truck driver has been apprehended by the police and a case against him has been registered.
According to the police, a piece of secret information was received to a team of police officers of Chaurbari watch post through which they recovered 472kg of ganja.
Niranjan Das, In-charge of the Churaibari police watch post said, “The truck was coming from the Tripura side. During checking, our team recovered 472 kg of ganja from the truck. We apprehend the truck driver identified as Sajala Debbarman. We have registered a case under NDPS Act.”
Moreover, the police officer also said, the market value of the seized ganja is around Rs 47 lakh.
However, the driver was booked under the sections Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. Furthermore, the investigation into the matter is underway.
