Assam Police and BSF Apprehend Bangladeshi Nationals in Border Security Operations

On Saturday, Assam Police and the Assam Border Security Force (BSF) apprehended two Bangladeshi nationals at Badarpur railway station, including a 15-year-old minor girl. Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma highlighted the success of this operation in a post on X, congratulating the efforts of both the Assam Police and the BSF.

The apprehended individuals were identified as 36-year-old Mausum Khan and Sonia Akhtar, a 15-year-old from Dhaka. They had illegally entered India through the Madhoppur (BD)-Agartala route and planned to travel further to Bangalore, Karnataka. Chief Minister Sarma confirmed that, due to the effective coordination between the BSF and Assam Police, the two were successfully pushed back across the border the night before.

In a separate operation earlier, Assam Police detained three additional Bangladeshi nationals who had entered India from the Tripura side. These individuals were also pushed back to Bangladesh. The districts of Cachar, Karimganj, Dhubri, and South Salmara in Assam, which share a border with Bangladesh, have been the focus of increased border security.

Meanwhile, on Wednesday, the BSF in Meghalaya thwarted an infiltration attempt in the West Jaintia Hills district. During this operation, they apprehended three Bangladeshi nationals—two men and one woman—along with three Indian facilitators. This effort is part of a broader strategy to enhance surveillance and border security along the Indo-Bangladesh border.

The recent unrest in Bangladesh, sparked by demands for reforms to the quota system for civil service jobs, has led to a surge in border security measures. The BSF in both Meghalaya and Assam is on high alert, aiming to prevent illegal crossings and crack down on smuggling operations. The heightened vigilance reflects ongoing concerns over national security amid the protests in Bangladesh.
