Assam: Flood situation in Dhemaji continues to be grim

The flood situation in Assam’s Dhemaji district has deteriorated, with approximately 18,000 people affected by the latest wave of flooding. Flood waters swamped 48 settlements within the district’s four income circles, submerging 530.07 hectares of crops.

Following days of excessive rain, the water levels of various rivers and tributaries of the Brahmaputra River have risen, inundating new sections of the region. Patients and hospital employees are ready for a slew of complications as flood waters invade the Silapathar Model Hospital grounds.

The Dikari River’s floodwaters have submerged numerous villages, including Jamuguri, Siyari, Uluwani, and Tatiguri, and have affected many inhabitants. According to the Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA), over 8,000 people have been affected in the Gogamukh Revenue Circle area, and 7,400 in the Sissoborgaon Revenue Circle area.

Pijush Hazarika, minister of the Assam Water Resources Department, visited the Dhemaji district on Saturday and inspected the Jiadhal and Gai River embankments. According to the ASDMA flood report, the Brahmaputra River is flowing above the danger level mark at Neamatighat in Jorhat district, the Disang River at Nanglamuraghat, and the Dikhou River at Sivasagar.

The present flood wave has harmed about 30,000 people in six districts and one state subdivision, and the flood waves have inundated 1263.07 hectares of agriculture.
