Assam CM attacks AAP, calls it ‘failed political start-up’

Himanta Biswa Sarma, the chief minister of Assam, has once again attacked Arvind Kejriwal’s Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), calling it a “political start-up” that has “failed to pick up.” The remarks come as top AAP leaders and Kejriwal continue their intensive campaigning in Gujarat, a state that has been governed by the BJP for more than 20 years.

“The AAP is a failed political start up,” Sarma said. “Even after 10 years they haven’t progressed to become an MSME (Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises). For the last 10 years, they have been trying to sell the same product without any proof of delivery,” the BJP leader further said. The Assam Chief Minister had made the remarks while speaking at the Hindustan Times Leadership Summit on Saturday. “They are still prisoners of the past”.

While Arvind Kejriwal’s party seeks to position itself as the main opposition in Gujarat, Delhi is also expected to witness a contentious contest in the local elections scheduled for next month. In Himachal Pradesh, where the assembly elections were held in a single phase on Saturday, the AAP has also actively campaigned there. Over the years, the AAP has included settlement of other civic issues, healthcare, and education in its top poll pledges. However, the BJP has charged that the party is unable to fulfil its promises.

Himanta Sarma also criticised the Congress, his previous party, during the HTLS 2022 and claimed it lacked democracy. He continued by saying that many people who had supported Shashi Tharoor , who last month lost the race for president of the Congress to Mallikarjun Kharge, will shortly join the BJP. However, the leaders of the grand old party responded angrily to the remark.
