As many as 762 E-libraries set in state in last two years

Haryana has become the first state to provide e-library facilities in rural areas, aiming to enhance educational opportunities in villages across the state. These e-libraries are fully equipped with digital resources, including books and magazines, to assist rural youth in preparing for competitive exams. According to recent statistics, 762 e-libraries have been established in Haryana over the past two fiscal years.

During the financial year 2022-23, renovation of 94 existing buildings was completed for the establishment of e-libraries, with nine buildings in Dult, Diwana, Rasulpur, Sadhnawas, Chandpura, Hindalwala, Mamupur, Amani, and Lohakhera being converted into e-libraries. The remaining 85 buildings from that fiscal year, along with 668 buildings from the financial year 2023-24, are scheduled to be converted into e-libraries upon procurement of IT equipment and furniture items.

Tenders for purchasing IT equipment have been floated by the Director General of the Supplies & Disposals Department, while furniture procurement is underway through the Haryana Forest Development Corporation. Former Chief Minister Manohar Lal has also contributed by donating his ancestral house in Baniyani village for the establishment of an e-library, emphasizing the importance of accessible education for rural children.

In addition to these efforts, the police department is also establishing e-libraries in police lines across all districts of the state. Recently, the second Sardar Patel Police e-Library was inaugurated at the Police Lines in Karnal by Haryana Director General of Police Shatrujit Kapoor. Similar initiatives are planned across the state to ensure access to educational resources for all segments of society, especially those preparing for competitive examinations.

The distribution of e-libraries across districts is as follows: Charkhi Dadri has 66 e-libraries, Karnal has 61, Sirsa has 59, Rewari and Hisar each have 110, Jind has 54, Sonipat has 55, Kaithal has 49, Bhiwani has 46, Kurukshetra has 43, Fatehabad has 42, Ambala has 32, Mahendragarh has 25, Panipat has 19, Panchkula has 14, Jhajjar has 11, Yamunanagar has 8, Palwal has 6, Gurugram has 3, and Faridabad has 2.

These e-libraries are designed to promote skill development and provide a conducive study environment for students. Special attention is given to ensuring quality education materials suitable for all age groups, particularly benefiting those preparing for competitive exams. The opening of e-libraries in police lines further extends access to educational resources to various segments of society.
