AMID ALLIANCE RUMOURS IN GOA, TMC’S MOUTHPIECE ATTACKS CONGRESS

The conflict between the Congress and the Trinamool is more evident in Goa, where assembly election is due on February 14. The Trinamool recently distanced itself from the Congress to prove its existence in national politics.

According to sources, Rahul Gandhi held talks with Goa Congress leaders in Delhi on Tuesday to discuss the possibility of alliance with Trinamool in the state for the polls.

Meanwhile, the Congress was again mocked as a ‘double standard’ in the editorial column of the Trinamool mouthpiece ‘Jagobangla’ on Tuesday. It wrote, “Congress believes in secularism. Neither the Congress nor the BJP do business with religion. So what happened in Chandigarh? What happened in the pre-vote! How did the BJP get more than two votes? This is the character of BJP. His ally is the Congress.”

However, the Trinamool has made it clear that it is keen to join hands with the Congress and other opposition parties in the fight against the BJP in the Goa elections. Trinamool MP and party’s Goa in-charge Mahua Maitra wrote on Twitter on Friday, “Rest assured, we (Trinamool) will do our best to defeat the BJP in Goa. Mamata Banerjee has done this in the past too. The trinamool will not hesitate to repeat it in Goa.”

Veteran Congress leader KC Venugopal has dismissed all speculations, saying there was no discussion with the Trinamool in the meeting on Goa.
