All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) Delhi will suspend routine hospital services on [tomorrow’s date] in a show of solidarity with the medical fraternity following the horrific rape and murder of a doctor at RG Kar Medical College in Kolkata.
The Faculty Association of AIIMS (FAIMS) has announced that only emergency medical services, including casualty, emergency OT, ICU, and wards, will remain operational. OPDs, OTs, and laboratories will be closed. The decision was taken at an urgent General Body Meeting attended by the faculty members.
The resident doctors at AIIMS have also joined the protest, demanding the implementation of a Central Protection Act to ensure the safety of medical practitioners.
Meanwhile, the Kolkata Police Commissioner, Vineet Kumar Goyal, has dismissed rumors surrounding the case, asserting that a thorough investigation is underway with the cooperation of the CBI. Despite this, 25 people have been arrested for vandalism on the RG Kar Hospital campus following the incident.
AIIMS authorities have assured patients that their appointments have been rescheduled, and emergency services will continue uninterrupted.
The strike at AIIMS is expected to cause significant inconvenience to patients, but the medical community has expressed its determination to demand justice for the deceased doctor and improved safety measures for healthcare professionals.
