AFTER 11 DAYS, WRECKAGE, PILOT’S BODY FOUND IN ARABIAN SEA

Mumbai: After 11 days of intense operations, the Indian Navy finally recovered the wreckage of the MiG-29K aircraft along with the body of the pilot, Commander Nishant Singh.

According to Navy officials, the body of the missing MiG-29K pilot Commander Nishant Singh was recovered on the seabed 70 metres below the surface. It was found 30 miles off the Goa coast after an extensive search.

The aircraft had crashed on November 26 while operating over the Arabian Sea. The MiG-29K fighter trainer jet of the Indian Navy had met with an accident at sea after which one of the two pilots was missing while the other one was rescued.

An underwater search around the crash site including extensive dives by saturation divers and continuous night search using HD cameras were undertaken over the past 10 days, said the official.

All sections of the aircraft wreckage including ejection seats have bene accounted for using side scan sonar and HD cameras, while the FDR/CVR along with other important materials have been recovered and sent for analysis.
