After a lengthy hiatus of four years, Adampur Civil Airport in Jalandhar has resumed flight operations, marking a significant development for the region. The inaugural flight, destined for Nanded Sahib, took off from Adampur on Sunday afternoon, approximately at 12:50 PM. It is scheduled to land at Hindon Airport in Ghaziabad. This renewed connectivity holds promise for residents and businesses in the Doaba region, known as a hub for Non-Resident Indians (NRIs).
The commencement of flights from Adampur brings much-needed relief to travelers, particularly in terms of time-saving. Previously, the journey from Jalandhar to Delhi consumed nine hours by road, whereas now, it is expected to take just one hour by air. The inaugural flight witnessed a notable turnout, with 64 passengers traveling from Delhi to Adampur and all 72 seats booked for the return journey from Jalandhar.
With an economy-class fare of approximately Rs. 2300, inclusive of taxes, the flights offer an affordable option for commuters. The allocation of routes from Adampur Civil Airport includes destinations such as Hindon, Shri Nanded Sahib, Bangalore, Kolkata, and Goa.
The reopening of Adampur Civil Airport comes at an opportune moment, coinciding with the announcement of the Lok Sabha elections. Notably, Prime Minister Modi virtually inaugurated the airport just prior to the election announcement, underscoring its strategic significance.
This development signals a new era of connectivity for residents of Jalandhar and surrounding areas, offering enhanced travel options and facilitating economic activities in the region.
