A gang operating fake cabs nabbed, robbery cases solved

In a significant development, the police have dismantled a seven-member gang involved in operating fraudulent private sharing cabs and perpetrating robberies on the Zirakpur-Dera Bassi road. Today, law enforcement successfully apprehended five members of the gang. The arrests come in connection with a recent robbery incident on November 16, where a Dhakoli resident, Narendra Kumar, was robbed of a bag containing Rs 1.5 lakh and Rs 24,000 (paid via app) while travelling in a shared taxi from Zirakpur to Ambala. The suspects, including the driver, snatched the bag and forced Kumar out of the car at a secluded spot near Haripur Kudan before fleeing the scene.
A case involving charges of snatching and criminal conspiracy was registered at the Dera Bassi police station on November 17. Another incident on November 7 involved the robbery of Rs 27,000 from a Hisar resident, Bhanu, by four unidentified suspects at knifepoint.
The arrested individuals have been identified as Gurdeep alias Deepi, Neha, Rajinder alias Gangu, Manpreet alias Gopi, Gurpreet alias Kala Gujjar, Harpal, and Abhimanyu, all residents of Amloh and Khanna. Neha and Rajinder were apprehended on November 23, and a vehicle was impounded. With the arrest of these seven individuals, the police have successfully solved both robbery cases.
Dera Bassi ASP Darpan Ahluwalia revealed that the arrested suspects have a history of criminal activities, including cases related to NDPS, kidnapping, and extortion in Zirakpur and Khanna. Harpal, one of the arrested individuals, was found in possession of a sharp weapon (data). He played a crucial role in providing the gang with constantly changing SIM cards. Additionally, fake number plates used on the cab involved in the fraudulent operations have been recovered. Gurdeep and Gangu were known to blackmail drug addicts in Zirakpur, threatening to inform the police, and would subsequently extort both heroin and money from their victims.
