The Union Ministry of Labour and Employment announced that 21.67 lakh new employees were enrolled under the Employees’ State Insurance Corporation (ESIC) Scheme in June 2024, according to provisional payroll data. In the same month, 13,483 new establishments were brought under the ESI Scheme, extending social security coverage to more workers.

A year-on-year analysis indicates a 7% growth in net registrations compared to June 2023. Among the newly enrolled, 10.58 lakh employees, or approximately 49%, are aged 25 years or younger, highlighting significant coverage among the younger workforce.

In terms of gender, 4.32 lakh female employees were registered under the scheme in June 2024. Additionally, 55 transgender employees were also enrolled, reflecting ESIC’s commitment to inclusive social security.

The Ministry noted that payroll data remains provisional, as data collection is an ongoing process. This continuous enrollment under the ESIC Scheme reinforces the government’s efforts to ensure broader social security access across different demographics and industries.
