Gold worth Rs 43 lakhs has been seized from a passenger coming from Abu Dhabi at the Kochi airport by the Custom officials on Friday.
Acting on Air Intelligence Unit (AIU) input, Customs officers intercepted a passenger coming from Abu Dhabi at Kochi Airport on flight 3L 125. During the examination of the said passenger, 1,162 gm of foreign-origin gold (compound) (Exp quantity- 987 grams) was found concealed in his rectum.
According to the Customs officials, the value of the seized gold is 43.40 Lakhs.
Further investigations are going on.
Customs officials seized 4.2 kg of gold worth ₹1.9 crore in three separate incidents at Cochin International Airport Limited (CIAL) at Nedumbassery here on Wednesday.
Five persons were arrested in connection with the seizures reported within 12 hours at the airport. In the first incident, Shahul Hameed, a Thrissur native, and his wife who arrived from Dubai in an Air India (AI 934) flight along with their two children were held after officials found 1.2 kg of gold in their possession.
