SIDHU LEADS PUNJAB CONGRESS LEADERS TO UP, STOPPED AT UP-HARYANA BORDER

Punjab Pardesh Congress Committee (PPCC) president Navjot Singh Sidhu on Thursday led a protest march of party’s state leaders from Mohali to UP in protest against the killing of farmers in Lakhimpur Kheri. Several Punjab ministers, Congress MLAs and other leaders were part of this march. They were stopped at Haryana-Uttar Pradesh border, where there was a clash of words between Congress leaders and police officials.

After few hours UP police and administration agreed to allow Navjot Singh Sidhu along with Punjab ministers and MLAs, to move towards Lakhimpur Kheri. Cabinet minister Amarinder Singh Raja Warring said that police officials told them they themselves will take the Punjab Congress leaders to Lakhimpur kheri. However, Sidhu and others were yet to start from Saharanpur to Lakhimpur Kheri, till the last report was filed.

Meanwhile, Punjab Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi also joined Sidhu for a brief period when the march was about to start from Mohali. Ministers Tript rajinder Singh Bajwa, Vijay inder singla, Pargat singh, PPCC working president Kuljit Singh Nagra etc were among others present on the occasion and moved with Sidhu to UP.

On the occasion Sidhu slammed the BJP-led government in UP over the Lakhimpur Kheri incident. He said Punjab Congress and party MLAs are standing firmly with the farmers. He asked why UP authorities hadn’t taken action in the matter, even after an FIR was lodged.
