With prohibitory order under section 144 CrPc having been extended till 30 September by the Tamil Nadu government, the Opposition as well as alliance partners of the state dispensation have protested.

They have questioned the state government’s intention for continuing Section 144 in the state. They have said that this move by the government is affecting their election preparedness while the ruling AIADMK continues to have ‘political meetings in the name of review meetings’ in the district.

In Unlock 4.0, though several states allowed the public transport, metro train and religious places to resume, the Tamil Nadu government continued to restrict their operations fearing the spread of the infection.

The government has imposed Section 144 and asked that restrictions like closure of schools, colleges, educational institutions will be continued till 30 September.

As Section 144 prohibits the assembly of five people and above in a public place, BJP State President L. Murugan and hundreds of party cadres and several opposition leaders were booked recently for gathering in a large number violating the lockdown restrictions.

On Tuesday, BJP State president L. Murugan along with 250 others were booked by the Kallakuruchi Police today for gathering for their district unit inauguration.

While addressing the media on the cases that are being filed against him and his party cadres, Murugan said, “if party people are to be booked for participating in party functions every single minister has to be booked.”

AIADMK dismisses all the charges leveled against it by the Opposition and the Alliance partners, saying review meetings held by the Chief Minister and ministers are government functions to coordinate Covid-19 related works and everyone who attended the meetings are subjected to RT-PCR tests before being allowed in the meeting.
