The National Investigation Agency (NIA) will take over the Kerala train fire investigation, officials announced on Sunday.
According to the official, on Sunday, he was interrogated at the medical college hospital in Kozhikode while being examined by a team of doctors, where he was brought after the arrest.
In an statement the official close to NIA said that “The NIA officials camping in Kozhikode submitted a detailed report to the Union home ministry. It is a clear case of terror involving many states. We will invoke the UAPA (Unlawful atrocities prevention act) soon. We are sure he was sent to the state by his handlers and he got enough local help also.”
“There was enough planning and conspiracy behind the crime and it was not a single-man mission as confessed by the accused,” said the official.
Three people were killed, including a minor girl, and nine others were injured after the accused allegedly poured petrol on fellow passengers and set them afire on a Kannur-bound express train in Kerala last Sunday night.
A district session court in Kozhikode charged the accused, identified as Sharukh Saifi, who also suffered burn injuries, with murder under Section 302 of the Indian Penal Code on Friday. In a case filed by the railway police, he was charged with murder.
