BJP crosses majority in Odisha, ahead of BJD

Amidst the vote counting for Lok Sabha elections 2024, Odisha’s ruling party Biju Janata Dal (BJD), is leading on 24 seats in the assembly election per early trends.

Meanwhile, Bhartiya Janata Party is close to achieving the halfway mark with 43 seats revealed ECI on assembly elections trends on Tuesday.

According to Poll Body’s current data, other parties like INC (Indian National Congress) and CPI(M) are respectively leading in one and five seats in Odisha.

Meanwhile, the assembly polls in Odisha are being conducted simultaneously with parliamentary elections.

As per exit poll prediction, the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance, is set to double its tally in the eastern state. Which has long been the bastion of BJD.

Previously in 2019 election, the BJD sustained its robust presence in the state by securing 12 out of 21 seats, although this was a decrease from the seats it won in the 2014.

While congress on the other hand, has witnessed marginal improvement in the state, as it got 1 seat in 2019 elections against none in 2014.

Meanwhile, in the 2019 Odisha Assembly elections, out of the 147 seats, the BJD secured victory in 112 seats, while the BJP won 23 and the Congress managed to secure nine seats.

The Lok Sabha elections took place in seven phases, starting from April 19 and continuing on April 26, May 7, May 13, May 20, May 25, and June 1.
