The National Institute of Nursing Education, SNA Unit, PGIMER, Chandigarh, conducted a lamp lighting and oath-taking ceremony for the 52nd batch of B.Sc. Nursing 1st-year students on December 12, 2023. This traditional ceremony precedes the induction of students into clinical areas and holds significance in the nursing profession.
Prof. (Dr.) Ashok Kumar, Additional Medical Superintendent at PGIMER, Chandigarh, served as the chief guest. Mrs. Jaspal Kaur, Chief Nursing Officer, and Deputy Nursing Superintendents also graced the occasion. Dr. Sukhpal Kaur, Principal of NINE and President of TNAI Chandigarh, welcomed the guests, highlighting the importance of the lamp lighting ceremony in nursing and acknowledging Florence Nightingale’s significant contributions to the profession.
Prof. Ashok Kumar emphasized the crucial role of nurses in patient care, urging students to embody qualities of honesty, punctuality, sincerity, and empathy in their work. He motivated them to approach their responsibilities with wholehearted enthusiasm, drawing inspiration from Ms. Florence Nightingale’s influential role in shaping the nursing profession.
