Tamil Nadu BJP leader K Annamalai has slammed chief minister and DMK president M.K. Stalin for alleging that it was the BJP which tried to thwart the jallikattu (bull fighting). The BJP leader said that it was the Congress government which announced a ban on jallikattu over a decade ago.

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin stated while speaking at the inauguration of the new jallikattu arena in Madurai that it was the BJP which tried to thwart the jallikattu.
Tamil Nadu BJP leader K Annamalai took to his social media on Wednesday to slam the DMK leader for his ‘lies’ and stated that it was the Congress government in 2011 which announced a ban on jallikattu.

Annamalai wrote on X (formerly Twitter), “Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Stalin’s life is only about telling lies. Last time when he was in the ruling party, he signed whatever was handed to him and apologized for unknowingly signing for methane extraction from the delta area; now he has a habit of reading whatever is written on the piece of paper.

Thinking that people would have forgotten that it was the parasitic model DMK that banned jallikattu competitions in Tamil Nadu, he has unleashed new hoaxes. It was during the DMK-Congress coalition government that on July 11, 2011, Mr. @Jairam_Ramesh of the Congress, who was the then environment minister, announced a ban on Jallikattu. The DMK, which was getting sticky central ministerial posts and doing corruption as its full-time job, did not raise its voice against it.”

He further stated, “In January 2016, the Central Government led by our honorable Prime Minister Mr. @narendramodi to re-hold the jallikattu competitions which had been banned by the DMK-Congress coalition government, the Supreme Court banned and extended the ban on jallikattu. Immediately, the Hon’ble Union Minister Mrs. @nsitharaman instructed the Tamil Nadu Government to enact an ordinance to hold jallikattu. Accordingly, in January 2017, after much persuasion and deliberation, the then Tamil Nadu government passed an ordinance.”

As for the latest case regarding jallikattu, Annamalai said, “In the case against this, last December 2022, in support of jallikattu, the Solicitor General Mr. Tushar Mehta, who appeared on behalf of the central government, said that the emergency law allowing jallikattu has been passed with all the necessary documents and features for the approval of the President. Accordingly, after the ban on jallikattu competitions was lifted, the Supreme Court gave permission to hold jallikattu, but the parasitic model DMK has nothing to do with it. DMK can be proud that BJP was able to lift the ban on jallikattu only because the DMK alliance banned it.

Let Cauvery be an issue, let Khachathivu be an issue, let jallikattu be banned. Position has always been more important to DMK than Tamil heritage, than the welfare of Tamils. DMK is the origin of all the problems faced by the Tamil people. How many more years will this Gopalapuram family lie and deceive people for their family’s hunger for power?”
