WATCH | PM Modi: Namaste Has Gone Multinational, Local to Global

In a grand event at Nassau Coliseum in Long Island, New York, Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed an enthusiastic gathering of the Indian diaspora, emphasizing the global impact of India’s culture and values. As part of his three-day visit to the US, Modi touched upon the significant role of the Indian community in shaping international perceptions of India. Reflecting on the widespread acceptance of Indian customs, he humorously noted, “Ab apna Namaste bhi multinational ho gya hai, local se global ho gya” (“Now even our Namaste has gone multinational, evolving from local to global”). This remark highlighted India’s cultural outreach and its increasing relevance on the world stage.

Modi’s address to the diaspora comes at a crucial time when India’s economic, technological, and political influence is rising, further solidifying its place as a key player on the global front. The Prime Minister expressed gratitude to the Indian community in the US for their contributions to strengthening India-US relations, stating that they are ambassadors of Indian values abroad. He underscored that India’s cultural practices, like the Namaste, have now become symbols of global unity and mutual respect.

The event in New York was part of a broader mission to deepen ties between India and the US, coinciding with Modi’s meetings with US political and business leaders, including at the Quad Summit. With the Indian diaspora forming a vital bridge between the two nations, Modi’s speech highlighted not only India’s rich heritage but also the global opportunities that lie ahead for the nation as it continues to rise as a global powerhouse.
