Waffle House CEO Walt Ehmer Dies at 58 After Long Illness; Atlanta Mayor Honors His Legacy

Walt Ehmer, the CEO and president of Waffle House, has passed away at the age of 58, following a long illness. The Atlanta Police Foundation confirmed his death on September 8, posting a heartfelt tribute on Facebook to honor his leadership and dedication.

Waffle House released a statement to Fox Business, expressing deep sorrow and highlighting Ehmer’s 30+ year career with the company. “He will be greatly missed by his entire Waffle House family,” the statement read. Further details will be shared in the coming days, but the company has requested thoughts and prayers for Ehmer’s family during this difficult time.

The Atlanta Police Foundation praised Ehmer as a “dedicated leader” who was instrumental in advocating for public safety and improving Atlanta’s community. His commitment to service will leave a lasting impact on those who knew him.

Atlanta Mayor Andre Dickens also shared a touching tribute, honouring Ehmer’s remarkable legacy of leadership and warmth. “My thoughts are with his family, friends, and colleagues during this difficult time,” Dickens said.

Ehmer began his journey with Waffle House in 1992 and became president in 2002. He was also actively involved with Georgia Tech, his alma mater, serving on several boards and as chair of the Alumni Association Board of Trustees from 2012 to 2013. He is survived by his three children.
