Trump Criticizes Ukraine Aid, Praises Russia’s Military History

During a rally in Savannah, Georgia, former U.S. President Donald Trump questioned the ongoing U.S. support for Ukraine in its war against Russia. Trump criticized President Joe Biden’s stance of providing aid “until Kyiv wins the war,” suggesting that Russia’s military strength should not be underestimated.

Historical Comparisons: Russia’s Military Wins

Trump referenced Russia’s historical military victories, including its role in defeating Adolf Hitler in World War II and Napoleon’s failed invasion. “That’s what they do, they fight wars,” Trump said, hinting at Moscow’s endurance in conflicts.

No Meeting with Zelenskyy

Despite Ukrainian officials hinting at a possible meeting, Trump’s campaign confirmed that no meeting between him and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy was scheduled during Zelenskyy’s visit to the U.S. for the UN General Assembly.

Zelenskyy as ‘The Greatest Salesman’

Trump continued his critique of Zelenskyy, calling him “the greatest salesman on Earth” for securing billions in U.S. aid. Trump exaggerated the amount, claiming Zelenskyy walks away with “$100 billion” after each U.S. visit, while official numbers point to $56 billion in security aid since Russia’s 2022 invasion.

Trump’s History with Zelenskyy

This isn’t Trump’s first clash with Zelenskyy. Their complicated history includes Trump pressuring Zelenskyy to investigate Biden during his presidency, a move that led to Trump’s first impeachment.

GOP and Ukraine Relations

Trump’s stance reflects growing skepticism within some parts of the GOP regarding U.S. aid to Ukraine. Meanwhile, Trump’s son, Donald Jr., criticized Zelenskyy for allegedly attacking the GOP presidential ticket while benefiting from American taxpayer funds.
