Putin Supports Kamala Harris For US Presidency, Cites Her Infectious Laugh

In a surprising development, Russian President Vladimir Putin has publicly expressed support for US Vice President Kamala Harris in the upcoming US presidential election. Speaking at the Eastern Economic Forum in Vladivostok, Putin commented on Harris’ cheerful demeanor, stating that he admires her “infectious laugh.” According to Russia Today (RT), he suggested this might indicate she is in a good position for the presidential race.

Shift in Support

Previously, Putin backed President Joe Biden, describing him as a “more experienced and predictable politician of the old school.” However, following Biden’s endorsement of Harris as his successor, Putin has now shifted his support to her.

During the forum, Putin was asked if he had a favorite candidate now that Biden is not running. He responded by praising Harris, adding, “Her laugh suggests everything is going well for her.”

Hopes for Better Relations

Putin hinted that Harris’ upbeat attitude could potentially lead to a more diplomatic approach toward Russia. He implied that her disposition might result in fewer sanctions against Moscow, contrasting her with former President Donald Trump, who Putin claimed imposed the most restrictions on Russia of any American leader.

US Government Responds

National Security Council spokesperson John Kirby responded swiftly, urging Putin to refrain from interfering in the US elections. “The only people who should determine the next president of the United States are the American people,” Kirby said, demanding that Putin “stop talking about our election” and avoid meddling.

This comes as the US prepares to accuse Russia of attempting to influence the 2024 election. Reports have surfaced that Russia might use disinformation campaigns to sway American voters, although Russian lawmaker Maria Butina dismissed these claims as a “witch hunt” and “pure rubbish.”
