The Los Angeles Police Department surrounded a bus amid reports of a hostage situation occurring at the intersection of South Alameda Street and 6th Street.
Pictures and live footage from local media show an armored police truck positioned in front of the MTA bus, which had come to a halt on its route. A SWAT team has also arrived at the scene, fully equipped for action.
Video footage indicated that the bus driver was among those being held captive, but he has since managed to escape the hostage situation.
The incident began around 12:45 AM on Wednesday when an unidentified gunman shot a passenger, who later succumbed to his injuries in the hospital. The victim has been identified as a 48-year-old man who was shot twice, according to the Citizen crime reporting app.
After a pursuit that lasted over six miles through the city, a SWAT team apprehended the suspect, whose identity has not yet been disclosed.
