The Supreme Court has adjourned interim bail to former Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia in the Delhi Excise Policy case. The top court further said that it will hear the same in the month of September.
Manish Sisodia’s lawyer Abhishek Manu Singhvi read Manish Sisodia’s wife’s medical report during the hearing and said that she is suffering from back pain and unable to walk. Then, the court asked whether the patient is indoor or outdoor on which Singhvi said outdoor. On this, the court said that we are not rejecting the interim bail application. This disease remains under control by precaution, we have no problem in taking her to AIIMS or other big hospitals, because we are not denying the disease and its seriousness, but this cannot be the basis of bail.
The Supreme Court told the counsel for the investigating agency, ASG Raju, that it will consider interim bail along with regular bail after hearing in the month of September, when we will hear regular bail, we will discuss policy decisions, money trail, tampering with evidence and other details.
Earlier, Manish Sisodia had filed a bail petition in the Supreme Court on July 14, citing his wife’s illness. Two days ago, while filing a reply in the court, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) had said that the leaders of the Aam Aadmi Party were engaged in a criminal conspiracy with the accused from South India to monopolise the liquor business in the capital.
The CBI reply also said that Sisodia does not meet the triple test for bail in such cases as he is politically influential and has already destroyed evidence and is non-cooperative during interrogation.
The Delhi High Court had earlier on July 3 denied bail to Sisodia in the ED case. On May 30, the High Court had rejected Sisodia’s bail plea in the CBI case related to the same scam.
