Hardeep Singh Nijjar was fatally shot in Surrey, Canada. Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau accused the Indian government of involvement, a claim dismissed by New Delhi as baseless.

India and Canada’s relations deteriorated when Nijjar was named a terrorist by the country’s intelligence agency in 2020 and subsequent murder charges. Citing involvement in internal affairs, New Delhi retaliated by seeking the dismissal of 41 of the 62 Canadian diplomats. Even said, India insists that Canada never offered solid proof of Nijjar’s murder, and tensions have partly decreased since then.
