Nigeria’s highest distinction, the ‘Grand Commander of the Order of the Niger, has been conferred on Prime Minister Narendra Modi as part of his visit to Abuja on Sunday.

It was morning hours of the day when PM Modi had taken a meeting with Nigeria’s President Bola Ahmed Tinubu at the Presidential Villa. Grateful for the recognition, he said, “This is not mine alone, but for 140 crore Indians.” That makes the award even more important because of the deep root it has between India and Nigeria.

He was received by Nigeria’s Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Ezenwo Wike, who handed over to him the symbolic ‘Key to the City of Abuja’, by a gesture symbolizing trust and respect from the people of Nigeria.
