Security forces killed three Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) terrorists during an en- counter in Pulwama district of Jammu and Kashmir on Thursday, officials con- firmed.
A joint cordon and search operation was launched in Nader Tral area of Awanti- pora following specific in- telligence inputs about the presence of terrorists, said a police official.
The search operation es- calated into a gunfight after the terrorists opened fire on the forces, who retaliated promptly.
The encounter re- sulted in the killing of three terrorists identified as Asif Ahmed Sheikh, Amir Nazir Wani, and Yawar Ahmed Bhat. The Army’s Chinar Corps confirmed the recovery of three AK-series rifles, twelve magazines, three grenades, and other war like materials from the slain terrorists in a post on X. Police sources confirmed the deceased were affiliated with the proscribed terrorist group Jaish-e-Mohammad.
Inspector General of Police (IGP) Kashmir, V K Birdi, while addressing reporters near the encounter site, described the operation as a significant development in the ongoing fight against terrorism. “These are significant developments in our resolve and fight against terrorism,” Birdi said, reaffirming security forces’ commitment to maintaining peace in the region.
Following the Pahalgam terror attack in which 26 people, including a Nepali national, were killed, the Indian forces have intensified their operation against terrorists in Jammu and Kashmir. In retaliation for the terror attack, India launched Operation Sindoor in which precision strikes destroyed terror infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Jammu Kashmir (PoJK) and eliminated nearly 100 terror operatives at key bases in Pakistan. Among the targets were Bhawalpur, the headquarters of Jaish, and Muridke, a key training base of Lashkar.
