The capital is set to get a new chief minister on Wednesday. The BJP may surprise everyone by appointing a Dalit face as CM, potentially disrupting the opposition’s politics surrounding backward classes while sending a strong message nationwide.
However, the final decision on Delhi’s next CM will be made during a BJP legislature party meeting on Wednesday.
There has been a lot of speculation about the BJP’s decision, especially considering the time the party has taken to make the choice.
In the Lok Sabha elections, the opposition’s focus on backward class politics resulted in fewer seats for the BJP than expected. By appointing a Dalit face as Delhi’s CM, BJP could strike a significant blow to opposition parties, particularly Congress leader Rahul Gandhi’s brand of politics. It would also impact SP leader Akhilesh Yadav ’s politics of backward classes, Dalits.
BJP’s move is seen as a major political gamble. As a result, Ravinder Indraj, who won the Bawana seat for the first time, has come under discussion. A seasoned BJP worker and the head of the party’s backward class wing, Ravinder’s name has gained attention.
The final decision on who will become the next CM will be made during the legislative meeting on Wednesday. Preparations for the swearing-in ceremony at Ramlila Maidan have already begun. Initially scheduled for the evening on February 20, the ceremony will now take place at 11 am.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi, his Cabinet, party officials, Chief Ministers from BJP and NDA-ruled states, as well as prominent industrialists and film stars, are expected to attend the ceremony. A cultural programme will also be held.
Names of Pravesh Verma, Subhash Sachdeva, Vijender Gupta, Rekha Gupta, Shikha Rai, Mohan Singh Bisht, Ashish Sood, Manjinder Singh Sirsa, and others are also under consideration for the CM post. Additionally, Arvinder Singh Lovely, Kapil Mishra, and Ravinder Singh Negi are among those considered for ministerial roles.
