The iconic Allianz Arena in Bayern Munich will now be confirmed as the host of the 2028 UEFA Champions League Final, with the venue for 2029 reduced to a contest between London's Wembley Stadium and the renovated Camp Nou in Barcelona.

An announcement by UEFA on Friday confirmed Munich was the only bidder for 2028, guaranteeing the prestigious final will return to Germany once again.

Why Was Munich Selected for the 2028 Champions League Final?

Only Munich came through as a bidder to host the 2028 Champions League final, and hence the choice by UEFA was quite straightforward: the Allianz Arena, the most modern stadium in Europe, last hosted the final match in 2025 and since then has served as an example for fan experience and infrastructure.

The decision extends Germany's strong relationship with European football's premier event. The city's efficient transport systems, modern stadium design, and proven track record in hosting global tournaments — including Euro 2024 — made it a natural selection.

UEFA said the "declarations of interest are not binding" at this stage, with official bid dossiers due on 10 June 2026. The governing body will make the final call next September, confirming all 2028 and 2029 final hosts.

Who Will Win the Race for the 2029 Champions League Final?

The Champions League final in 2029 is shaping up to be a high-profile duel between two legendary arenas: Wembley and Camp Nou.

A favorite would be Wembley Stadium, which last hosted the final in 2024, simply because of its rich, storied football heritage and global accessibility. The English FA is eager to bring the showpiece back to London in just five years' time, citing the capital's unmatched logistics and capacity for hosting major finals.

The strong challenge is the massive renovation that will take place in Barcelona's Camp Nou, which, when completed, will have a record 105,000-seat capacity; this will make it Europe's largest football venue.

Its last Champions League final was in 1999, when Manchester United famously came from behind to defeat Bayern Munich in stoppage time.

Where Will Europe League and Conference League finals be held?

While Munich and Barcelona are deemed front-runners, bids have been submitted by several other stadiums in Europe for the Europa League and Conference League finals.

For either of the secondary competitions, Italy's Juventus Stadium in Turin is proposed, along with Romania's National Stadium in Bucharest, France's Parc des Princes, and Lyon's Groupama Stadium.

Added to the list of candidates are new arenas in Belgrade, Serbia, and Ankara, Turkey, showing a desire by UEFA to expand into up-and-coming football markets.

Meanwhile, the Helsinki Olympic Stadium, Arena Gdansk, along with Ireland's Aviva Stadium, are all in contention for finals in 2028 or 2029, making sure there is a good mix of prospects throughout the continent.

Could a Champions League final be staged outside of Europe soon?

Speculation about a Champions League final in New York in the future has continued, but UEFA's latest announcement is clear-no such move will happen before 2030. For now, Europe remains the exclusive home of the world's most prestigious club competition.
