Ashwin was last with the Chennai Super Kings (CSK), and there had been questions about his future with the franchise. Ashwin retired from international cricket last year. In the 2025 IPL mega auction, he was bought by CSK for ₹9.75 crore. It was a homecoming for Ashwin, who previously played for CSK from 2009 to 2015. He also represented Rising Pune Super Giant and Kings XI Punjab (now Punjab Kings) during his IPL career.

Veteran Spinner Eyes New Journey in Global T20 Leagues

Ashwin played nine matches and claimed seven wickets during the previous season. With just four wins and ten losses, the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) had a dismal season and finished at the bottom of the points standings. This was the 2nd time that CS ended their IPL tour at the bottom of the points table. Achievements of Ashwin in Indian cricket have made him a legendary figure despite the challenging season, whether it was at home or abroad.

With his IPL chapter closing, Ashwin is now looking forward to exploring opportunities in other global T20 leagues. Fans are eager to see where the experienced spinner will turn up next, and his announcement signals a new phase in his cricketing journey.
