Two Australian women cricketers faced a frightening incident in Indore, Madhya Pradesh, on Thursday morning. A man on a motorcycle allegedly stalked the players and molested one of them, police said. The players were walking from their hotel to a nearby cafe when the incident occurred.

Quick Action by Security and Police

The cricketers immediately informed their team’s security officer, Danny Simmons. He coordinated with local security officers and arranged a vehicle for the players’ safety. Assistant Commissioner of Police Himani Mishra met the players, recorded their statements, and launched legal action.

An FIR was registered at MIG Police Station under sections 74 (use of criminal force to outrage a woman’s modesty) and 78 (stalking) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).

Accused Arrested Quickly

A bystander noted the motorcycle’s registration number, helping authorities identify the accused as Akil Khan. He was arrested on Friday. Police revealed that Khan has prior criminal cases, and further investigation is ongoing.

World Cup Context

The incident occurred just hours before Australia’s last group-stage match against South Africa at Holkar Stadium in Indore. Both teams have qualified for the semi-finals, but Saturday’s match will determine the group leader.

Australia leads the group with 11 points from six matches, while South Africa has 10 points. The group champion will face India in the semi-final, making the match crucial for the Indian women’s team.

Ensuring Player Safety

Authorities and the Australian team have increased security measures after the incident. Local police assured the players’ safety during their stay in Indore.
