Former Pakistan PM and cricket legend Imran Khan has mocked the national cricket team after they lost to India in the Asia Cup 2025 on Sunday (Sep 21).

Imran Khan, who led Pakistan to its only ODI World Cup victory in 1992, humorously criticized the team’s performance. He suggested that Pakistan could only beat India if the PCB chairman and the Army Chief opened the batting.

PCB Chairman and Army Chief Should Bat?

According to Imran’s sister Aleema Khan, he joked that Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman Mohsin Naqvi and Army Chief Gen Asim Munir should open for the team. “He suggested that both should open for Pakistan and is the only way his nation can beat India in a cricket match,” Aleema told reporters on Monday.

He also added that the umpires should be former Chief Justice of Pakistan Qazi Faez Isa and Chief Election Commissioner Sikandar Sultan Raja.

Pakistan’s Performance Against India

Pakistan, despite showing some fight with the bat, lost comfortably to India by six wickets. Earlier, they had lost to India by seven wickets in the Group A stage. The Super Four defeat marked another disappointing performance for the team.

India chased the 172-run target in just 18.5 overs, maintaining dominance over their arch-rivals. The win extended India’s winning streak to seven matches against Pakistan. Pakistan last beat India in October 2021.

Upcoming Asia Cup Clash

India and Pakistan could face each other for the third time in the Asia Cup 2025 if both finish in the top two of the Super Four. The final is scheduled for Sunday, Sep 28. Fans are already anticipating a high-voltage encounter between the cricketing rivals.

His comments, though humorous, reflect the frustration of cricket fans and former players. Pakistan cricket authorities face pressure to rethink strategies, especially ahead of major tournaments like the Asia Cup and World Cup.
