New Delhi: With just few months left for the assembly polls in Punjab, Congress stage in-charge Bhupesh Baghel on Monday met Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra here to discuss the state wide bus yatra to kick off the party’s campaign.
Baghel arrived at residence of CPP Chairperson Sonia Gandhi 10 Janpath and held meeting with Rahul Gandhi, who is also the Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha.
The meeting lasted for over half an hour and during the two leaders discussed the state wide bus yatra ahead of the polls in the state.
Speaking to the media, Baghel said that Rahul Gandhi has given his consent for the same.
When asked when the yatra will commence, he said that after discussing with the Punjab leaders, he will submit the yatra plans with Rahul Gandhi.
He also said that the yatra can commence from next week.
The meeting comes even as the Punjab unit is facing factional crisis for the past one month.
Many state leaders including former Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi had showed dissent following the continuation of Amarinder Singh Raja Warring as state unit chief. Even posters had come up in Punjab against Baghel, who is also the former Chhattisgarh Chief Minister.
Meanwhile, Baghel also played down the internal factionalism in the state unit and said that all state leaders will participate in the yatra.
While commenting on the possibility of BJP and SAD alliance in Punjab, he said that the Congress is getting stronger and thus such alliance stories are coming up.
Sources in the party, however, claimed that Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi also took report on the internal factionalism in the state unit.
Elections for 117 assembly seats in Punjab is scheduled early next year. Congress is looking to make a comeback in the state by wresting power from the ruling AAP. While the BJP and the SAD are also looking to makena comeback in the state.
