Rajouri, July 20: A major tragedy was averted in Jammu and Kashmir’s Rajouri district on Monday after a suspected Improvised Explosive Device (IED) was recovered near Gandhi Memorial Academy in the Argi area.
According to officials, the suspicious object was spotted near the school following which security forces were alerted. A Bomb Disposal Squad (BDS) was immediately rushed to the spot and launched an operation to neutralise the threat.
After carefully examining the device, the BDS successfully defused the suspected IED at around 8:20 pm, ensuring the safety of residents in the area.
The area was subsequently sanitised and secured by security personnel. No casualties or damage to property were reported.
Police have registered the incident and launched an investigation to determine who planted the suspected explosive device and whether it was part of a larger conspiracy.
Officials said the swift response by the Indian Army and the Bomb Disposal Squad helped prevent what could have been a serious incident.
