Who is Maa Kaalratri?

Maa Kaalratri is the seventh incarnation of Goddess Durga. She is strong, courageous, and fearless. Her name "Kaalratri" itself indicates "the dark night," and she is said to uproot evil and keep her followers safe from evil energies. Maa Kaalratri appears fierce-looking, with dark skin, untidy hair, and shining, fearless eyes. She sits on a donkey and has a sword and a lightning bolt in her hands, representing protection and courage.

Date of Puja

On Day 7 of Navratri 2025, which is September 28, 2025, devotees wake up early in the morning and conduct the Maa Kaalratri Puja in temples or at home. They conduct special rituals to obtain her blessings for courage, fearlessness, and protection against evil.

Rituals to Follow

Clean the Puja Space: Begin with cleaning your house or the worship space. It is said that a clean space brings positive energy.

Kalash Arrangement: Put a Kalash (sacred vessel) with water, mango leaves, and a coconut in the puja space.

Offerings to Maa Kaalratri: Red flowers, sweets, fruits, and incense sticks are offered to Maa Kaalratri by devotees.

Mantra and Chants: Repeat the Maa Kaalratri mantras or Durga Chalisa to seek her blessings.

Aarti: Finish the puja with Aarti while singing bhajans.
